Asian Studies Major
The Asian Studies major requires nine courses:  six elective courses, two semesters of language, and the senior requirement.

Required Courses
Six courses from the offerings of cross-listed Asian Studies courses, representing at least 3 different disciplines and including one course at the 300-level or above.  Courses offering significant Asia content, though not cross-listed as Asian Studies, may be approved by the chair to fulfill this requirement.

Two Language Courses
Two semesters of introductory Chinese or Japanese or other relevant Asian language.  Students who plan to pursue Asian Studies at the graduate level are advised to study language through the intermediate level and above.

Study Abroad in Asia
Students are strongly encouraged to participate in a study abroad program in Asia.   The two Lake Forest College programs (May China Program and Beijing Semester Program) and ACM programs offer LFC academic credit.   Transfer credit is earned in other study abroad programs.

Senior Requirement

  • ASIA491, one-semester research project
  • ASIA 492, 1-2 credit senior thesis
  • Upper level class approved by the chair

Asian Studies Minor
The Asian Studies minor requires six courses from the Asian Studies curriculum, including at least one course or independent project at the 300 level or above.
