Lake Forest understands that students bring different strengths, capacities, motivation, and preparation to the academic experience. They also have different needs and goals. With the College’s flexible curriculum and depth of choices, students design individualized courses of study, yet what they have in common is the strength of the traditional liberal arts education and exposure to the humanities, the natural and mathematical sciences, and the social sciences.
Beginning with the First-Year Studies Program the resources of nearby Chicago play an important role in enhancing and strengthening the academic experience at Lake Forest. Students are encouraged to pursue the many internships, off-campus study programs (both domestic and international), and research opportunities available to them to further reinforce the importance of leadership, service, and personal accomplishment in a context much broader than the classroom.
Study Abroad
is encouraged. Lake Forest sponsors a variety of sought-after programs and can help you make arrangements for others if you have specific interests in a particular country or area of the world. Students returning from such experiences often extend those associations through programs in the campus international center.
