Selecting a Program
When choosing an off-campus program, keep in mind that it should:
- relate to your own academic program at Lake Forest College and your future career/study plans.
- offer you a new cultural or educational experience not available on the Lake Forest College campus.
- be sponsored by an accredited institution or approved organization with standards acceptable to Lake Forest College.
- conform to Lake Forest College’s academic calendar (some fall programs extend into our spring semester).
While ALL off-campus programs should meet the above requirements, there are other, more personal areas for consideration. These may include the following:
1. Do you want to study abroad or remain in the United States?
2. Do you prefer a study only program or one that includes an internship?
3. Do you have the required foreign language proficiency if your chosen program is in a non-English speaking country?
4. If studying in a foreign country, do you prefer to live with a host family or in a dormitory?
5. Do you have the financial resources necessary to participate in your chosen off-campus program? Costs vary widely according to program, location, currency exchange rates, travel plans, and personal spending habits.
Because of Lake Forest’s affiliation with some sponsoring institutions and our students’ past participation in certain programs, your application may be greatly facilitated by working with these organizations. Visit the Off-Campus Programs Office for details.
