Vicki Trinder > Biographical Sketch

Vicki Trinder earned her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in Curriculum and Instruction. She received her B.A. from Carleton College in religion and earned a secondary language arts/social studies certification and a master’s degree at UIC. She worked at UIC as a clinical adjunct lecturer, participating actively in restructuring elementary programs, with a focus on urban and underserved neighborhood schools. At the Associated Colleges of the Midwest, she was the Bilingual/ ESL Coordinator for the Urban Education Program for several years. In addition, she has worked as a curriculum consultant for language/literacy and arts-integration for the Little Village Lawndale High School Campus.

Trinder has also been awarded several classroom-teacher grants for curriculum enhancement and creative projects: The Oppenheimer Family Foundation (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000); Chicago Foundation for Education (1998, 200); and The Rochelle Lee Library Fund Award (1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000). Furthermore, she received the Ida B. Wells Action Research Award to conduct ethnographic research with 8th/9th grade students transitioning from an arts-integrated middle school into Chicago high schools and the National Endowment for the Humanities Scholarship to participate in the Cartographic Traditions in World History Summer Institute with other nationally-selected teachers. In addition, she has been awarded the Fulbright-Hays Scholarship for Telpochcalli teachers to study Mexican arts/culture/history for five weeks in Mexico.
