Holly Swyers > Biographical Sketch

Holly Swyers earned her IB from Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa before studying theatre and anthropology at Ripon College.  After graduating from Ripon, she worked in theatre for a time before moving into a career in education reform in New York City.  In 1997, she decided to pursue a PhD in anthropology from the University of Chicago, which she achieved in 2003.  She taught as a member of the college faculty at the University of Chicago for three years before coming to Lake Forest College.  She began at Lake Forest in 2006 in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.  Her work focuses on contemporary American culture, and she has presented and published work on high school culture and sports fan communities.
