Janet McCracken > Biographical Sketch

Janet McCracken is Professor of philosophy at Lake Forest College.  Her recent work includes “Falsely, Sanely, Shallowly: Reflections on the Special Character of Grief” .”  International Journal Of Applied Philosophy (19:1, spring 2005), an outgrowth of her ongoing interest in the overlap or space between aesthetic and moral judgment.  In Taste and the Household: The “Domestic Aesthetic” and Moral Reasoning. (2001), she investigates the relationship between aesthetic sensibility and moral character, connecting them both to household practices and to the contemporary cultural malaise.  In “The Aesthetics of Playtime Recycling,” presented at the American Society for Aesthetics Fall 2002, and an article-length review of six books on design (2000), she investigates this theme as it relates to environmental aesthetics.
