Anne E. Houde > Biographical Sketch

Anne Houde, born in New York City, received degrees in biology and zoology from Princeton University and University of Maryland.  She did postdoctoral work at Princeton University and University of California, Santa Barbara.  Anne’s research focuses on behavioral ecology, the study of how behavior evolves in response to environmental and social conditions, in birds and guppies.  She joined the Lake Forest College Biology Department in 1992, served as department chair from 2001-2005 and has taught courses in ecology, evolution, animal behavior, sex and gender and others.  Her publications include a monograph on guppy sexual behavior (Sex, Color, and Mate Choice in Guppies, Princeton University Press 1997) and papers, several co-authored with Lake Forest students, in journals such as Animal Behavior, Behavioral Ecology, Proceedings of the Royal Society, Science, Nature, and Evolution.
