Lake Forest provides a superb traditional liberal arts education and does so in ways that are distinctive, even exceptional. Working side-by-side with distinguished faculty, students acquire a strong and lasting academic foundation in the classroom. The student-professor ratio is 12 to 1, and most classes have between 10 and 20 students, so students feel comfortable expressing their opinions or asking for help. Professors serve as advisors and mentors and share a fundamental goal of preparing students to become independent thinkers and responsible citizens of global communities.

The College offers strong research programs in all areas of the curriculum, and these programs are backed by first-rate laboratory facilities. Students and faculty members collaborate frequently on research projects often resulting in presentations at national conferences or published papers co-authored by student and faculty.
