Dr. Kelli Markham, Nuclear Regulatory Commission

Kelli graduated from Lake Forest College in 1998 with a Chemistry Degree.  Post graduation she completed a summer internship at Abbott Laboratories in the Computer Aided Molecular Design Group.  After that, Kelli began work in a Radiochemistry Laboratory doing contract work for the Department of Energy testing soil and groundwater samples for contamination at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.  Shortly thereafter she decided to pursue her interest in mechanistic chemistry and began a doctoral program at the University of Iowa in Professor Amnon Kohen's Laboratory.  There she researched mechanistic enzyme chemistry, and obtained her PhD in 2004.  She stayed at the University of Iowa as a Post Doctoral Associate and then a Visiting Assistant Professor teaching a general chemistry course and her favorites, Organic Chemistry and Bio-Organic Chemistry.  In 2006, Kelli accepted a position at the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, where she is enjoying the dynamic nuclear energy field from the perspective of a Chemical Safety Reviewer.  There she is involved in Chem Safety reviews for the proposed Mixed Oxide (MOX) Fuel Fabrication Facility at the Savannah River Site as well as GNEP or reprocessing related projects.
