The Academic Festival, a one-time event in the history of Lake Forest College, will be the centerpiece of the Sesquicentennial celebration and kick-off to Homecoming 2007. The Festival will commence with a lecture by Thomas Friedman on Thursday, October 4, 2007 and continue on Friday, October 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

THOMAS FRIEDMAN
A free public lecture titled "The World is Still Flat" by Thomas Friedman, best-selling author, New York Times foreign affairs columnist, and three-time recipient of the Pulitzer Prize. Thomas Friedman is a prolific writer – his recent books cover a wide range of provocative topics – The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century (2006), Longitudes and Attitudes: The World in the Age of Terrorism (2003), The Lexus and the Olive Tree: Understanding Globalization (2000) and From Beirut to Jerusalem (1998). The Academic Festival will showcase excellence in liberal learning at Lake Forest College throughout the College’s history of 150 years as well as among the many talented constituents of the Lake Forest College Community. As the academic centerpiece of the College’s year-long celebration, the Academic Festival will affirm the venerable tradition of liberal learning at the college in all of its forms, with participation by emeriti faculty, faculty, staff, students, alumni and community residents.
