Lake Forest College ranked as one of the Top 10 “Best Value” Colleges

Lake Forest, Ill.- In a recently released new book, America's Best Value Colleges, published by the Princeton Review, Lake Forest College is cited as one of the top 10 “Best Value Colleges” in the country.

According to the Princeton Review, the guidebook rankings are “based on quantitative and qualitative data it obtained from administrators at over 500 colleges, and surveys of students attending them.” According to Robert Franek, Assistant VP / Princeton Review, "Our methodology was complex. We identified over 30 factors by which we rated colleges in three categories: Academics, Tuition, and Tuition GPA: the sticker price minus average amount students receive in gift aid scholarships and grants. The 77 schools that met our criteria may not be the least costly colleges in America, but they are all great education deals. We highly recommend them to students and parents seeking the best academic bang for their buck."

Lake Forest's actual ranking in the group is number nine. Other liberal arts colleges
in the top ten include Amherst, Grinnell, Bates, Claremont McKenna and Southwestern. Rounding out the group are four larger universities: UNC at Chapel Hill, Rice, University of Texas and City University of NewYork's Brooklyn College.
"I am very pleased that The Princeton Review has recognized the outstanding value of a Lake Forest College education. Our high ranking is based on the superior quality of our academic programs, and on our commitment to make it possible for well-qualified students with financial need to attend the College,” says Lake Forest College President Stephen Schutt.

“Applications for admission to Lake Forest College have been on the rise for the last several years, and the College is becoming increasingly selective. This year we have over 2,400 applications for 350 spaces in the first-year class, says Bill Motzer, vice president for admissions and career services. Students are very happy with the education they receive here and with the overall experience. The quality and reputation of our faculty is outstanding, and students have the opportunity to really connect with their professors as well as with their fellow students who come from all over the world. The distinctive ways in which we incorporate the resources of Chicago into the curriculum here, along with the opportunities for internships is also a big draw for students—it’s an added value.”

Lake Forest College is a private, liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The College has 1,300 students representing 46 states and 50 other countries.
