Lake Forest, Ill.—The Lake Forest College Math and Computer Science department will present three math colloquiums during the month of April. Distinguished speakers will present and discuss various topics of applied mathematics. The public is invited to attend free of charge. For more information, please call 847-735-6010. Each colloquium will be held from 4–5 p.m. in Young Hall, Rm. 111, located on the College’s Middle Campus. Refreshments will be served prior to the presentations. On Monday, April 5, Edward Packel, the Ernest H. Volwiler Professor of Mathematics at Lake Forest, will speak on “Projectile Motion with Resistance, Experimental Mathematics, and the Lambert W. Function.” On Wednesday, April 14, visiting professor Jerry Bona, from the University of Illinois at Chicago, will discuss “Solitons and Sand Bars: Mathematics on the Beach.” On Monday, April 19, Dr. David Ash of Real Time Agents Inc. will present “Real Time Mathematics: Sophisticated Techniques for Trading in the Financial Markets.” Lake Forest College is a private, liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The College has 1,300 students representing 46 states and 50 other countries.
