Britain’s Passacaglia to Perform at Lake Forest College

Lake Forest, Ill.—Lake Forest College Department of Music will present a concert featuring Passacaglia, a baroque music ensemble from the United Kingdom, on Wednesday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel, located on the College’s Middle Campus. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information please call 847-735-6010.

The performance will include music by Couperin, JFK Fischer, JS Bach, Telemann, and a premiere by Geoffrey Gordon. The ensemble includes Dan Laurin (recorders), Annabel Knight (recorders and flute), Robin Bigwood (harpsichord), Reiko Ichise (viola da gamba), and Julia Gooding (soprano).

Passacaglia has established itself as one of Britain's best and most entertaining chamber music ensembles offering a refreshingly different approach to baroque music. Blending the sweet, articulate sound of recorders and baroque flute with the ravishing sonorities of viola da gamba and harpsichord, Passacaglia provides new insights into familiar music, while rediscovering a wealth of beautiful but neglected master works.

“The performances display clarity, crispness and enthusiasm that perfectly match the spirit of the music,” Daily Telegraph.

Lake Forest College is a private, liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The College has 1,300 students representing 46states and 50 other countries.
