Issues of Worldwide Food Distribution and the Bioterrorism Act Lake Forest, Ill.—Maria Vélez de Berliner, president of Latin Trade Solutions, Inc. and alumna of Lake Forest College, will present “Food, Security, and Nutritional Needs” at the College’s third annual Global Issues Symposium on Monday, February 23 at 7 p.m. in Meyer Auditorium. Her talk will address the connection between food supply and worldwide distribution with the U.S. Bioterrorism act. The public is invited to attend the talk free of charge. A native of Columbia, Vélez created Latin Trade Solutions to help clients develop business strategies for global market entry. Vélez is a national lecturer on issues of business development and economic and political security in Latin America, and she has presented policy recommendations to officials of the U.S. Government. Vélez graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lake Forest College, where she majored in International Relations. She will be visiting the College from February 23–25, lecturing in several classes and conferring with students. From February 23 to February 25 Vélez will lecture on the Global Economy in Professor Les Dlabay’s Business Seminar. She will address Professor Rand Smith’s courses on U.S. Energy and the Environment and Politics of Latin America. In Professor Lois Barr’s Spanish for International Relations, she will discuss issues of hunger and free trade in Latin America. Vélez de Berliner will lecture on the topic of Latinos as entrepreneurs and as a market in Hispanics in the United States, taught by Professor Saldivia-Berglund. She will also hold office hours to confer with students interested in careers in international relations and trade. Lake Forest College is a private, liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The College has 1,300 students representing 46 states and 50 other countries.
