Lake Forest, Ill.—.On Thursday, November 13 at 4 p.m., Ylknur Cankes, a member of Turkey’s Ministry of Culture, will talk about the history and fine art of weaving and knotting Turkish rugs. The discussion, titled, “Women Weavers of Turkish Rugs: A Modern Version of an Ancient Craft,” will be held in the Glen Rowan House at Lake Forest College, located at 500 N. Sheridan Road. The event is free and open to the public. Prior to the lecture, rugs may be viewed from 3 – 4 p.m. For more information please contact 847-735-6010. Cankes is presently touring the United States showing a special selection of beautifully woven rugs and kilims created by Turkish countryside women who utilize traditional methods, dyes, and patterns. Lake Forest College is a private, liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The college has 1,330 students representing 46 states and 50 other countries.
