Lake Forest Lyrica Begins Tenth Season


Lake Forest, Ill.-Lake Forest Lyrica, the highly acclaimed series of chamber music at Lake Forest College, will begin its tenth season on Sunday, October 26 at 3:00 p.m. with a concert by the brilliant sextet, eighth blackbird. Hailed as ambassadors of new music, eighth blackbird has a growing reputation for its astounding musical versatility as well as for its dedication to the works of today’s composers.

Formed in 1996 at the Oberlin Conservatory, the ensemble has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Naumberg Chamber Music Award and the CMA/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. The ensemble is currently in residence at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago. The program will consist of works by David Schober, Gordon Fitzell, Carlos Sanchez-Guterriez, Stephen Mackey, and Fred Lerdahl. A reception with the musicians will follow the concert.

The series continues on Sunday, November 23 at 3 p.m. with a concert by flutist Mathieu Dufour, and pianist Kuang-Hao Huang, performing music by Reinecke, Hindemith, Prokofiev, and a world premiere by Rami Levin. On Sunday, February 29, the Chicago Chamber Musicians will perform music by Mozart, Schubert and Nielsen. The final concert, on Sunday, April 25, will be The Comic Intermezzo, with soprano Kathleen Van De Graaff, and bass Peter Van De Graaff performing one act operas by Haydn and Johann Adoph Hasse.


All concerts are held in Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel on the campus of Lake Forest College. College and Sheridan Roads in Lake Forest.

Single tickets for all concerts are $15 / $5 for students with ID, free to Lake Forest College faculty, staff and students. A subscription to all four concerts is $50. For more information and to order tickets, please call
