Lake Forest, Ill.— Lake Forest College presents a lecture by Nahid Shafiei, a specialist on the topic of professional women in Iran, titled, “Veiled Activism: Women in Post-Revolutionary Iran,” on Tuesday, October 14 at 7:15 p.m. in Meyer Auditorium in Hotchkiss Hall on the College’s Middle Campus. The lecture is free and open to the public and for more information please contact 847-735-6010. Shafiei, born in Baghdad to Iranian parents, served as one of the few veiled female faculty at an Iranian university. A U.S. citizen since 1995, Shafiei currently works as a translator for Foreign Broadcasting Information Service in Virginia. She was educated in the U.S. and in Iran, with a master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Chicago. The presentation will focus on women in Iran in the political arena and workforce, as they expand their rights within the context of an Islamic culture. The lecture is sponsored by the Lake Forest and Deerfield area branches of the American Association of University Women and Lake Forest College.
