Lake Forest, Ill.-Lake Forest College will host a lecture titled “Histories of Globalization in China,” presented by University of Chicago Professor Prasenjit Duara, on Wednesday, September 17 at 8 p.m. in Meyer Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public. Meyer Auditorium is located in Hotchkiss Hall on the College’s Middle Campus. For more information call 847-735-6010. Professor Duara specializes in studies of modern Chinese social and cultural history and nationalism, transnationalism, and imperialism. He received his Ph.D. in history and East Asian language from Harvard University. The author of numerous books and articles about Chinese civilizations, his recent publications include Sovereignty and Authenticity: Machukuo and the East Asian Modern, “Nationalism and Transnationalism in the Globalization of China,” and “Civilizations and Nations in a Globalizing World.” The lecture is sponsored by the College’s Freeman Grant for Asian Studies, which aims to enhance student and faculty participation in the Asian Studies Program and provide education about Asia to the local community. Lake Forest College is a private, liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The College has 1,300 students representing 45 states and 43 other countries.
