“ London Past and Present: Perspectives on British Culture” Lake Forest, Ill.- The Lake Forest College Women’s Board Seminar Series for 2003 is titled “London Past and Present: Perspectives on British Culture.” The annual seminar series, now in its 24th year, consists of four lectures on a common theme. Beginning Thursday, October 9, the series runs weekly (Thursdays at 10:00 a.m.) through October 30 in the Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel located on the Middle Campus of Lake Forest College. Tickets can be purchased for the entire Women’s Board Seminar Series for $60, or are available for $20 per lecture at the door. For more information contact 847-735-6015. Thursday, October 9, 10:00 a.m. “ The Lure and Lore of London: Confessions of a Long-time Devotee” Presented by Hotchkiss Presidential Professor of English Emerita Rosemary Cowler Thursday, October 16, 10:00 a.m. “ The Amusing Style: London Interiors and the Avant-Garde of the 1920s” Presented by Associate Professor of Art Christopher Reed Thursday, October 23, 10:00 a.m. “ The Theatre of London” Presented by Distinguished Service Professor of English Richard Malette Thursday, October 30, 10:00 a.m. “ Religion and the Church in Britain: Slow Death?” Presented by Professor of History and former president of Lake Forest College David Spadafora The proceeds form the Women’s Board Seminar Series help support the Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows Program, which was established to encourage the flow of ideas between the academic and non-academic sectors of society, and to connect a liberal arts education with the world beyond the campus. Fellows spend a week on the campuses of small liberal arts colleges helping students and teachers relate education to the needs of American society. Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows are representatives of various professions: business executives, diplomats, prize-winning journalists, writers, artists, etc. The Lake Forest College Women’s Board, established in 1971, is comprised of women from the local community who work together to foster and to promote the interests of the College within the local community through a better understanding of the purposes of the College and the work of the faculty and students. Lake Forest College is a private, liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The College has 1,330 students representing 46 states and 50 other countries.
