Trade Relations Between Asia and Latin America: Predicting the Future


Lake Forest, Ill.— María Velez de Berliner, President of Latin Trade Solutions, Inc. will address the issue of “Trade Relations Between Asia and Latin America: Predicting the Future” in her public address on Wednesday, April 23 at 4 p.m. in Meyer Auditorium of Hotchkiss Hall at Lake Forest College. She will give a predictive Latin American perspective on the issue of labor conditions, trade agreements and market conditions. For more information please call 847-735-6010. A native of Colombia, Vélez created Latin Trade Solutions to consult with clients to create, implement, and manage strategies for market entry and/or expansion into global markets. Its special focus is on Latin America, including Brazil and Mexico, but it also works with clients interested in Europe, Japan, Canada, and Australia. Latin Trade Solutions Inc. works in a cross-section of industries, including telecommunications, International Trade , industrial safety, energy, petrochemicals, wood products and forestry, and food production and distribution. It specializes in selection and management of positioning and sales channels, competitive analysis of market trends, economic and political risk assessment, and trademark and brand security programs, all in the areas of Joint Venture, Market Positioning, Channel Development and Sales Management.

Ms. Velez de Berliner has presented policy recommendations to high security officials of the U.S. Government and is a national lecturer on issues of business development and economic and political security in Latin America. Ms. Velez de Berliner graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lake Forest College where she majored in International Relations. She has an M.A. in International Relations and International Security from the University of Pittsburgh. Last year Ms. Vélez gave the Annual Latin American Studies Lecture at Lake Forest College on the topic of security in the Andean region.

From April 21 to the 25th, Ms. Velez will lecture on the Global Economy in Professor Dlabay’s Business Seminar. She will address Professor Smith’s course on U.S. Energy and the Environment and she will discuss the effect of the war in Iraq on U.S. relations with Latin American nations, in Professor Barr’s Spanish for International Relations. Vélez de Berliner will lecture on the topic of Latinos as entrepreneurs and as a market in Hispanics in the United States, taught by Professor Saldivia-Berglund. She will also hold office hours to confer with students interested in a career in international relations and trade.

Lake Forest College is a private, liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The college has 1,300 students representing 45 states and 43 other countries.
