Lake Forest, Ill--The acclaimed, activist theater troupe, the Guerrilla Girls On Tour, will be performing at Lake Forest College on Thursday, February 13 at 7 p.m. in McCormick Auditorium located in the Johnson Science Center on the College’s Middle Campus. The performance is open to the public and is free of charge. For more information please call 847-735-6010. Guerrilla Girls On Tour is the performing and touring wing of the Guerrilla Girls, founded in 1985 by seven women artists to combat racism, sexism and discrimination in the art world. “The Guerilla Girls have illuminated the gap between action and principle in a world that thinks of itself as unusually liberal and enlightened.” –Roberta Smith, The New York Times Guerrilla Girls On Tour will be performing their signature Guerrilla Girls Gig – an entertaining romp through the history of the Guerrilla Girls, an up-to-date look at their latest masked capers and a discussion with the audience on the current, local discriminating trends in the Chicago area. Each member of the Guerrilla Girls has taken on the pseudonym of a dead woman artist and they appear in public wearing Gorilla masks to conceal their true identities. The purpose of this is to place the focus of the work solely on the issues of racism and sexism rather than on the actors own personalities. Other tour stops for the group this year include Canada, North Dakota, Florida, France, Georgia, Pennsylvania, New York, California, Scotland and Texas. Lake Forest College is a private, liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The college has 1,300 students representing 45 states and 43 other countries.
