Former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Speaks on “Fundamentalism and War”

Lake Forest, Ill.-—The Former U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, James E. Akins, will present a lecture and discussion titled, “Fundamentalism and War” on Thursday, December 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Lake Forest College in Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel. The lecture is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by the Kemper Foundation. For more information please call (847) 735-6010.

Akins has been described as “one of the most brilliant political minds in Washington,” by Roland Evans of Evans and Novak. The New York Times commented “from Capitol Hill to the New York boardrooms and the palaces of Persian Gulf Shaiks, Akins is regarded as one of the country’s foremost experts on energy issues and Mid-East geopolitics. He has a wider, more proficient grasp of politics, technology, and the economics of energy issues – particularly oil – than anyone in Washington.” His most important task is generally believed to have been to persuade the Saudis to lift the oil embargo. Arguably, a more important accomplishment was his role in persuading the Saudis (particularly King Faisal) to alter their policy of absolute rejection of Israel.

Lake Forest College is a private, liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The college has 1,300 students representing 45 states and 43 other countries.
