Lake Forest, Ill – Lake Forest College Department of Music will present a concert by the renowned John McNeil Quartet on Wednesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel on the campus of Lake Forest College at the intersection of College and Sheridan Roads in Lake Forest. John McNeil is regarded as one of the most unique and creative jazz artists in the world today. His highly personal trumpet style communicates across the full range of contemporary jazz. Audiences find John’s music immediately compelling. His background includes the Horace Silver Quintet, Gerry Mulligan, and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, among others. For more than two decades John has toured with his own groups and has received widespread acclaim for his playing as well as his compositions. The John McNeil Quartet has been in existence since 1979. It was originally formed for an eight-week European tour at the suggestion of SteepleChase Records’ owner Nils Winther. The Quartet has toured extensively in Europe, the US, Canada and Australia. The quartet members are John McNeil, trumpet, Andrew Green on guitar, Ron Vinent on drum and Tom Hubbard on bass. The Quartet aims to create a synthesis of styles, mixing complex harmonies and non-harmonic improvisation, form and freedom, and odd meters with more traditional time organization from the evolving tradition of Jazz. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information please call (847)735-5170. Lake Forest College is a private liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago.
