The World Economy After September 11: How Europeans See It

Lake Forest, Ill – Journalist Stefano Lepri, economics and monetary policy editor for La Stampa, a leading Italian newspaper, will be the German Marshall Visiting Fellow at Lake Forest College. The public is invited to attend Lepri’s talk "The World Economy After September 11: How Europeans See It" on Thursday, February 7 at 4 p.m.

Lepri will present his talk in Meyer Auditorium located in Hotchkiss Hall on the College’s Middle Campus near the intersection of College and Sheridan roads in Lake Forest. There is no charge for admission. For more information, please call 847-735-6010.

In addition to his contributions to La Stampa, Lepri serves as the managing editor of Global FP, a bi-monthly magazine jointly published by La Stampa, the United States journal Foreign Policy, and two Italian foreign affairs think tanks, IAI and ISPI.

A native of Florence, Signor Lepri has covered international financial organizations and world summits, including G–7 meetings. He followed closely the early years of post-communist economic rebuilding in Eastern Europe and more recently the movement toward European monetary union and the launching of the euro. Lepri has recently returned from Davos where he was a participant in the 2001 meeting of the World Economic Forum.

Lepri’s visit is made possible by a grant from The German Marshall Fund of the United States to the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, as part of a major effort to increase understanding between prominent Europeans and young Americans. German Marshall Fund Campus Fellows are successful men and women from business, journalism, public service, and other professions who are placed on the campuses of small liberal arts colleges for a week of intensive dialogue with students and faculty. The Fund was established in 1972 by a gift from the Federal Republic of Germany to commemorate American postwar assistance under the Marshall Plan.

Lake Forest College is a private liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The College has more than 1,240 students representing 44 states and 41 other countries.
