Center for Chicago Programs

The Center for Chicago Programs at Lake Forest College connects the College community to the cultural, historic and educational riches of one of the country’s largest and most diverse cities:  Chicago.

Located on Middle Campus at Lake Forest College, the Center for Chicago Programs facilitates academic experiences and internships at Chicago institutions as well as trips to the city’s dozens of ethnic neighborhoods.  It also brings well-known Chicago experts and artists to campus for classroom discussions, as well as public lectures and performances.

Sponsored in part by a generous grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Center for Chicago Programs fosters collaboration between Chicago and the campus for students, professors, and the community.

A Resource for Students

The Center for Chicago Programs offers students the chance to apply classroom lessons, conduct research projects and connect with the real world in an urban setting.  At the Center, students have access to information about music, art, theater and other cultural and educational events in the city.  Regular workshops provide students with guidance on navigating the city.  Students can also join organized trips to events in the city.

Center Features:

  • Computer terminals for researching Chicago destinations and events
  • Books and brochures about city institutions
  • Maps and transportation schedules
  • Read the latest reviews of concerts, plays, art exhibits and more
  • Intimate settings for lectures and events

A Destination for the Community

Every year Lake Forest College is host to scores of lectures, special events and performances by noteworthy Chicagoans.  Lake Forest Lyrica, a series of chamber music concerts by Chicago area professional ensembles is one such program.  Another is the Lake Forest Literary Festival, which brings well-known Chicago area writers to campus.  Most of our events are open to the public and draw large crowds from College and community residents alike.
