Lake Forest College Five-Year Plan
2005-2010

To the Lake Forest College Community:

I am pleased to present the final Five-Year Plan for Lake Forest College, 2005-2010.  Approved by the Board of Trustees on Friday, February 18, the plan sets forth five ambitious goals for the College, expressed as follows:

“By 2010 Lake Forest College should be characterized by the following five traits:

  • an exceptional student experience, reflected in a high level of student satisfaction
  • high quality and strong satisfaction of its faculty and staff
  • strong fit and high quality of incoming students
  • extensive alumni engagement with the College
  • solid financial condition”

The plan also recommends a number of effective strategies to achieve these goals, as well as a series of benchmarks that we may use to measure our progress over the course of the next five years.  In the near future, the College’s senior staff and I will decide how best to allocate responsibility, across the College, for implementation of the plan.  As suggested by its structure – clear statements of direction with minimal rhetoric – the plan is designed for action.  It will be a working document; it will not gather dust.

I feel confident that the plan offers the right course for Lake Forest over the remainder of this decade, and that its successful implementation will dramatically strengthen the College.  It is the product of a great deal of hard and thoughtful work on the part of many members of this community, and I thank all who have contributed to it.  I want especially to express my gratitude to Interim Provost and Dean of the Faculty Rand Smith, who so expertly chaired the Five-Year Planning Committee, and also to the members of the Committee listed below.  The College is deeply in your debt.
